About the Role
Deine Rolle bei OcumedaAs Staff Software Engineer (m/f/d) you are the engineer who makes hard, unclear or broken things tractable. You know how our platform works end to end and you shape it as you go. Your focus is our full-stack platform: the web application our doctors, our optician partners, and their customers use daily, and the services behind it.This is an individual contributor role. No direct reports, real technical authority: you set direction on architecture and engineering practice, and you build in the same codebase as everyone else in the team. Staff/Senior here means deeper, not further from the code. Your job is to keep our systems fast to iterate, reliable in production, and ready for international expansion and scaling.Own the architecture of our full-stack platform – frontend, backend, data, AWS – and evolve it under real product pressure instead of rewriting itOwn our testing strategy: where we invest in unit, integration and end-to-end coverage, what we deliberately do not test, and how tests stay fast enough that nobody skips themPush our agentic coding practice forward: tooling, guardrails and testing discipline that make us faster without putting unverified code into a live productShape scope together with product: surface the cheap 80 % solution, and say clearly when something is not worth buildingBuild so that what ships is operable and auditable by design (e.g. ISO 27001, ISO 13485), without turning engineering into paperworkGo wherever the problem is – a scaling bottleneck one week, a broken integration the next – you fix it properlyDas bringst du mitSeveral years of professional software engineering experience (roughly 7+), most of it on systems that reached real usersDeeply hands-on across the stack: strong in the frontend, at home in the backend, comfortable in the infrastructure and web technologies around itA strong background in TypeScript, and well-formed opinions you can defend and reviseA clear product focus: you care about what ships, what runs, and what users experienceYou speak fluent English (C1); German is a plus... and as a nice to have: Experience in a start-up or scale-up where speed and quality both matteredComfort taking ownership and shaping processes nobody has defined yetA degree in a STEM field – equivalent practical experience counts moreExposure to regulated software, medical devices or health dataIf you match most of this, apply. We would rather read your application than have you rule yourself out.Was dich bei uns erwartetFlexible working hours and hybrid work with home office optionsSubsidized Deutschlandticket (public transport pass) for employeesPersonal learning & development budget for trainings, conferences, and professional growthHigh level of ownership, fast decision-making, and real opportunities to help shape the companyRegular feedback, short decision paths, and individual development opportunitiesInternational team with close collaboration, regular exchange, and shared team eventsCollaboration with experts from optometry, ophthalmology, software & AI development, and strategy consultingMonthly contribution toward a Wellpass membershipFree access to Nilo Health for mental health and wellbeingCompetitive salary matching your role and experienceModern, dog-friendly office in the heart of Munich, close to the main train station (Hauptbahnhof)Contributing to a leading teleophthalmology platform that sustainably improves access to eye careEstablished B2B2C model with over 800 partner optician locations and more than 500,000 screenings performedFind Jobs in Germany on Arbeitnow
